On the Buckle Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book

This book is just fantastic. Great characters who are well developed, a story line that makes sense, beautiful descriptions of scenery. Just lovely.

 A really nice surprise December 3, 2013

I came across the book and decided to give it a shot since the storyline included horses and what appeared to be a potentially interesting plot line. I didn’t expect it to be full of interesting characters who were flawed, complex and some even endearing. This book was a breath of fresh air that didn’t tie into a pretty bow too soon or give out perfect love platitudes. I was drawn in and sorry when it ended. I only wish it was somehow a series. (Author note: It IS!)

Read this and laugh! November 19, 2013

What a great character Carrabus has created in Vi Parker! And a great character deserves a great story, which you will definitely find in ON THE BUCKLE. This novel has everything I love in a mystery–engaging characters, intriguing plot, and a healthy dose of humor. I am definitely a fan of the Dreamhorse Mystery and can’t wait to read the next one. Some more, please!!

Mystery, Suspense and just enough Romance October 30, 2013

I truly enjoyed reading “ON THE BUCKLE”. Candace Carrabus Rice has captured my attention with this Dreamhorse Mystery book. The vision that was created through Rice’s descriptive writing made me feel as though I was right there next to Viola Parker throughout the story. I am waiting and hoping that the next Dreamhorse Mystery book comes out soon, I am curious to hear more of Vi and Robert’s “partnership”. Keep them coming Candace. This is my favorite!!

 Awesome Read!!! October 16, 2013

I just finished reading On The Buckle. I couldn’t put it down. I took it everywhere with me and each morning while getting ready for work I’d get a few pages in between makeup application and hair drying. This book had everything…humor, mystery, romance and of course horses. And the book cover is just perfect. Now I know why there is a bull on the cover!!! Absolutely loved this book. Keep them coming Candace Carrabus!!!

But not an “on the buckle” read!! September 20, 2013

I grew up riding horses, and I can spot a poser from two book shelves away. So when I found Candace Carrabus’ books, I was thrilled to know she is both an experienced rider and a talented writer. If you like horses, or just love of a good mystery, I totally recommend “On the Buckle.” (PG-13…it is for grown-ups, y’all)Here’s a great line from the book that describes the allure of riding; “When I get in the saddle, some channel opens that is closed to most others…it put me in a zone of some kind where nothing could touch us-if I was on a horse I knew was ready, a horse that could do it.”

Aha! What she said!

The main character who is thinking these thoughts is Viola Parker; she’s sassy, funny, hooked on whipped cream straight from the can, and shares what we all feel about a good ride. And then finds herself in the middle of a murder mystery that had me chomping at the bit to find out who-done-it until the end.

Carrabus’ plot and characters are spot on, she’s funny, and her details about writing, and um…dead bodies….add extra interest. And if you don’t understand the title for this review, you will soon, and then you’ll agree, it’s a page-turner!

5.0 out of 5 stars MY KIND OF BOOK December 6, 2013

This book was definitely written by a horse owner that has first hand experience with horses, their problems and their frequent vet required accidents. I had a small horse ranch near Roswell, New Mexico for 12 years, in our final year on the ranch my wife informed me that I had scooped enough horse manure that she can title me a ” MANURE CONNOISSEUR “.
