Poem-A-Day Challenge: April 26

From Poetic Asides:

“For today’s prompt, I want you to write a poem involving miscommunication. It can be miscommunication between two people or misinterpretation of some sort. I will leave it up to you guys to deal with it however you want.”

    I THOUGHT YOU SAID . . .

You called out to me and said,
“Oh, Fred! We’re out of bread.
    “Would you go buy rye
    and some exotic spread?”
    I answered, “Sure, my dear,
    but should not Ted
    be sent instead?
    The last time I sped
    to get you bread,
I was sure you had said,
    “Thread.”
    The outcome was not pleasant.

Andrea – Hope you’re still with me. I was wondering what had happened to you since it seemed to me you had gotten off to a fine start.

And thank you for your very kind words. Poetry is everybody’s mystery, mine included. I just like the sound of words put together in interesting ways. And haiku? It’s simply based on observation of things that often go unobserved. The classic three lines: 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables. Don’t be afraid of it. It’s fun.

And don’t underestimate your ability to write poetry. If it comes from your heart, that’s all it needs. Please continue to contribute. – Jerry
